The "Folk Literature of the Sephardic Jews Multimedia Digital LIbrary" is funded by a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation, Digital Library Initiative Phase 2 and the Maurice Amado Foundation. The goal is to create a web-accessible archive of the Sephardic oral literature collected by Samuel G. Armistead, Joseph H. Silverman and Israel J. Katz in fieldwork conducted since 1957.

Commentary on transcriptions has been provided by Samuel G. Armistead, who is solely responsible for identifying the ballad-titles and other genres of this folk literature.

The orthographic conventions used in transcribing these files are based upon those of Samuel G. Armistead. We have attempted to represent all variations from the pronunciation of modern Castilian Spanish and our orthography therefore captures phonetic phenomena which use of modern Spanish orthography would otherwise obscure. Fortuna fuerte no, no es. Eyos estreshan el ozho [ no entiendo ]. Mira el capiten, una balena grande con la cola que está dando al vapor chico. Con la cola le está dando tanto tambian a pasar lo está a lo va, al vapor, lo va a batriar. "¿Cualo se va a haser, cual se va a haser?" Ya tienen piscando a la balena, hasta que la van a aprontar. Requiere tiempo, se van a [ se repite ] se van ahogar. Tenían una casha de portocales que la esharon a la mar. Después la esharon. La balena abrió la boca, se metió la casa de portucales. Hasta que se golteó la casha de portugales, los está mirando de atacaran el arpón para paral [ se repite ] para parar a la balena. El primer ves ya pasó, ya pasó la balena de nuevo con la cola. El vapor que lo va a batraiar. Ustedes cualo crean cual lo hay. Van a bushcar cualo hay, ven ahí un negrico. Lo esharon a la mar. Lo esharon a la mar, el negrico se lo gutleó la balena.
